What 'Self-Priming' Actually Means

A self-priming pump can pull water from below itself without being pre-filled — connect it to a tank, jerry can, or river, switch on the 12V supply, and the pump draws water up through the suction line on its own. Non-self-priming pumps need to be filled with water before they can move it; that's a hassle for portable applications where you're moving the pump between tanks or jobs.
