A commercial-scale reverse osmosis desalination plant producing 1500 litres per day (400 GPD) of permeate water — sized for cafés, restaurants, dental practices, light-industrial drinking-water, and small commercial facilities. Dual-membrane configuration with the standard commercial pre-treatment train, automatic flushing, and dual pressure-switch protection.

What 1500 LPD Means in Practice

A residential RO system typically produces 50-75 GPD — about 200-280 L per day, sufficient for a household's drinking, cooking, and hot beverages.

1500 LPD (400 GPD) is roughly 5-7× residential capacity — enough to:

  • Supply 50-80 customers per day with filtered drinking water (café scale)
  • Feed an espresso machine, ice maker, soda fountain, and customer water in a typical food-service site
  • Run a dental practice's irrigation and equipment-feed needs
  • Supply a 20-30-bed nursing home's drinking-water requirements
  • Feed laboratory equipment needing low-TDS water at moderate volumes

For higher demand, step up to the 3000 LPD (800 GPD) model or the 3000 LPD with pressure tank.

System Configuration

  • Membranes: 2 × TFC-2013-200 (thin-film composite, 2.5" × 20")
  • Membrane vessels: 2 × 2013 plastic vessels
  • Pumps: 36V DC pumps — quiet, low-vibration, energy-efficient
  • Rejection rate: 98% (tested at 8% recovery, 1000 mg/L NaCl feed, 150 PSI, 25°C)
  • Approximate feed flow: 0.3 m³/hr
  • Approximate permeate flow: 0.062 m³/hr
  • Approximate recovery: 18-30% (varies with feed water characteristics)
  • Inlet EC limit: < 1500 µS/cm (per membrane manufacturer recommendations)

Pre-Treatment Train

Standard commercial 20" big-blue cartridge pre-treatment in series:

  1. 20 µm sediment (2.5" × 20") — removes particulate down to 20 microns
  2. 5 µm GAC carbon (2.5" × 20") — chlorine and chemical reduction, granular activated carbon
  3. 5 µm CTO carbon (2.5" × 20") — secondary chlorine reduction, carbon block

Three-stage pre-treatment is essential at commercial scale — chlorine destroys TFC membranes within weeks, and sediment fouls them within months. Two carbon stages provide redundancy against chlorine breakthrough.

Control and Protection

  • Automatic flushing — periodic flushing of the membrane to clear concentrated reject before it scales the membrane surface
  • High-pressure switch — stops the pump when permeate tank is full or downstream pressure rises
  • Low-pressure switch — stops the pump if supply water fails (dry-run protection)
  • Provisions for a pressure tank — connect a permeate storage tank to buffer demand

Connections and Dimensions

  • Inlet: 3/8"
  • Concentrate (reject): 3/8"
  • Permeate (product): 3/8"
  • Compression brine: 1/2"
  • Dimensions: H 77 × W 42 × D 26 cm

Pre-Sale Water Analysis Recommended

"Before selecting an RO we request a water analysis report for the intended site so we can ensure the unit is suitable." Inlet TDS, hardness, iron, manganese, and chlorine levels all affect system sizing and pre-treatment requirements. A wrong system choice based on assumed-rather-than-tested water can result in rapid membrane fouling, inadequate output, or excessive reject ratio.

Contact our team with a water analysis report before final commitment for commercial installations.

Key features

  • Commercial RO plant — 1500 LPD / 400 GPD production
  • Twin TFC-2013-200 membranes with 36V DC pumps

  • Three-stage pre-treatment: 20µm sediment + GAC carbon + CTO carbon
  • Automatic flushing to prevent membrane scaling
  • High-pressure and low-pressure switch protection
  • Provisions for permeate pressure tank connection
  • 3/8" inlet, concentrate, and permeate connections
  • Compact 77 × 42 × 26 cm footprint

Recommended for

  • Cafés and restaurants with espresso, ice, and customer water demand
  • Dental practices with equipment irrigation and water-feed needs
  • Light commercial drinking-water installations
  • Nursing homes and small healthcare facilities
  • Small-scale laboratory and light-industrial water treatment

Compliance & certification

Commercial RO plant — installed downstream of meter as a water treatment system, not subject to WaterMark. Pre-sale water analysis recommended.
